Make Up: Trendy vs. Timeless?

A beautiful, flawless face has always been at the top of the list for most brides’ wedding day makeup requests. But in our current Pinterest-obsessed era, it’s easy for brides to get caught up in all of the current makeup trends (that can come and go fairly quickly). “I recommend that brides steer clear of anything that will seriously date their wedding photos. You will have your pictures forever, and no one wants to look back and regret this year’s version of ’80s blue eyeshadow,” said Chantay Silido, owner and lead artist of In Your Face Makeup Art.
The good news is—you don’t have to choose! Just as runway clothing trends can be modified for everyday wear, trendy makeup can be reimagined and incorporated into your wedding makeup wish list. We asked Chantay to show us how it can be done in three different looks.
Romantic
Trends: Pink Eyeshadow and Monochromatic Makeup
“I combined these two trends and used shades of pink for eyes, cheeks, and lips.”
Vintage
Trends: Red Lips, Revival Of ’90s Graphic Eyeliner, Glowy Highlighter
“I kept the cheek and eye colors neutral to let the focus stay on the lips and eyeliner.”
Dramatic
Trends: Bold Matte Lips and Glitter
“I chose a deep berry matte lip to contrast with the icy shimmer of the silver eyeshadow. Eyeshadow with a shimmery finish is an elegant way to incorporate the ‘glitter’ trend without looking juvenile.”
In all three looks, Chantay kept with the current mainstream (but modified to be wedding-friendly) trends of a natural, fuller brow and subtle highlight and contour of the cheekbones.
